Living in the Age of Entitlement: Narcissistic Admiration & Rivalry Concept - Do You Wonder if YOU will Ever be Good Enough?

Egotism and high-handed behaviour have been existent in society for quiet a while now and is more so evident with the presence of current US President Donald Trump.

Productive narcissists are people who may be charismatic but lack empathy and conscience.

When has there ever been a time when you haven’t spotted one? They are so easy to spot – their great first impressions, which are often charismatic.

All and many more (who are not named experience success after success; the victories just keep falling. These people have strong senses of self-esteem and lots of charisma, powerful vision and a way to make sure that things get done.

Guess who identified the three personality types about a century ago? None other than Sigmund Freud and these were:

  •     Erotic’s: People who not only love but ‘NEED’ to be loved
  •    Obsessives: People who are more inner directed
  •    Narcissists: People who just are fixated on themselves and crave ‘adoration’ NOT ‘genuine’ love
Narcissistic leaders in fact develop negative qualities, which later on can make them believe more in their infallibility and less on what other people think or believe. Think about the different times of life:
OUCH!!   and then the ideas to the top just slow down!!!
Of course there are so many others, Adolf Hitler, George Washington, Nelson Mandela, Julius Caesar, Chinese President Xi Jinping,Vladimir Putin, Russia's president and former prime minister, German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, - the Supreme Leader of Iran, British Prime Minister David Cameron, The leader of the Catholic faith, - Vatican City -Pope Francis

A well-known psychoanalyst and anthropologist, Michael Maccoby had recognised certain critical points that these three types overlap in many of us and in fact ALL of us possess a certain amount of narcissism.

Right from the Stone Age, Iron Age, History of Mesopotamia, Indus Valley Civilization, Vedic period India, New Kingdom (Egypt) and Classical India.

The inclusion of the printing press, the journey of Christopher Columbus (in 1492), the commencement of the British industrialiasation; post–Cold War era - the period in the world history from the dissolution of the Soviet Union, history of Russia from 1991 to the present began with the dissolution of the Soviet Union on 26 December 1991, and the establishment of the Russian Federation; Information Age (also known as the Computer AgeDigital Age, or New Media Age) – Industrial Revolution, Space Age (began with  Sputnik (1957), Cold War (Soviet Union and United States, as well their allied states, 1945–1989), World War II (Earth, 1939–1945) and Interwar period.

There are many, many more periods that can be listed but that is not at all what has to be discussed here.

It is this one quality – ego that has right-handedness that has trailed on through the years, making us so blind, vulnerable and helpless to improve our very own society and lives. Why should we be burdened and pay the price of another person’s ‘in power’s arrogance’; just because he wants to misuse his rights?

Think about it – any leader, entertainment, politics, corporate world or even professional sports – Leaders most often become rigid (not that every leader is bad), STOP listening, learning and very often seeking. They sometimes become rigid and have no tolerance. Remember Alexander the Great?

Oh he was called “Alexander III of Macedon” and few are aware of this real name but his Greek King of Macedon and member of the Agreed dynasty  is well known for having created one of the largest empires of the ancient world just by the age of thirtywhich stretched from Greece right upto India. He is a cautionary example for todays leaders.

Its hard to come across CEOs and entrepreneurs who are actually capable of being able to manage and manage well  when they have this quality of relying on their own instinct and refuse to be open to other data. What he did to himself was a confirmation of cultural superiority over all of humanity; a term which is now referrerd to as hubris.
This leads to what we can call as the “hardening of coporate arteries”

So, why think about all this now? When Donald Trump is staying up writing vengeful tweets way past 3 am about Megyn Kelly, that's his problem. He is “productive narcissistic” and is paying a huge price for it: always deeply angry, isolated, distrustful.

Is there any way, any escape or any hope to end narcissism, high-handed and arrogant behaviour and end this age of entitlement? With Christmas and New Years approaching what is the point of being 'NICE' just that one day? Rewind and think about your life, think about the people who were in it, reconnect with them or meet new people - MAKE YOUR own life GREAT again.

Karina Pandya in Conversation with Co-Founder of the Banyan, Dr. Vandana Gopikumar

An incident of coming across a homeless and mentally ill woman in distress on the road in front of her college in Chennai paved the route for Vandana Gopikumar to establish one of the leading NGOs in the field of mental health – The Banyan. While she was yet a Master’s student of Social Work, Vandana along with a close friend Vaishnavi Jayakumar encountered several other incidents of not being able to find the right shelter and mental institution for a woman in need of medical and psychiatric attention.     The Banyan, which was established in 1993 has been a one-stop destination to not only rescue, and rehabilitate but also treat mentally ill women from low-income groups. Vandana Gopikumar has pioneered a movement, helping thousands of individuals not only reintegrate into society but also secure long-term medical treatment.    Not only is she the co-founder of the NGO – The Banyan, but is also the co-founder of The Banyan Academy of Leadership (BALM). She is also a member of the advi

NGO Meet Becomes a Fulcrum of Mutual Help

“There is no better way to thank God for your sight than by giving a helping hand to someone in the dark.”  --Helen Keller   There are numerous social causes which would remain otherwise ignored if it were not for the Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) contributing to the cause. January 6th, Saturday saw the coming together of 25-30 NGOs to provide a single platform for mutual help and support. It was organised by the founder trustee of Karmayog – Vinay Somani to discuss strategic planning for social and civic causes.          A Buffet of Purposes: Maybe You're Lost, Maybe You Aren’t. Maybe You’re Meandering with Meaning     Whether it is raising funds, strategy planning, content writing, or volunteering; there are numerous ways by which people can contribute to the welfare of an NGO.    Dr Dhyanraj Patkar, whose Narmada Kidney Foundation works to create awareness about kidney disease said that 6100 people were on the wait list for a kidney transplant in 2023 in Maharashtra bu

A Boutique Passport to New York

New York, the city that NEVER sleeps is one of the most sought-after hotspots for fashionistas across the world.     With astonishingly tall buildings which rise up to a couple of thousand feet in the air, creating a beautiful New York Skyline, New York is home to some of the most popular brands across the world such as Macy’s, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Burberry, Valentino, Kate Spade, Fendi, Coach, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Huckberry, Nordstrom NYC and many others there are plenty of innovative retailers and retail trends to choose from. However, New York has not always been the fashion capital of the world.  Paris, Milan and London have always been known worldwide for the most influential fashion trend. New only emerged as a fashion capital post World War II when New York’s garment district became a vanguard of a different type.      There were designers in New York who challenged the Parisian couture by introducing sportswear into the high fashion world in the 194 0s and 1950s.
