Authentic Italian Cuisine at FratelliFresh, Renaissance Hotel Powai

Italian food is something I just can’t resist and that’s what motivated me to go for this event at FratelliFresh, Renaissance Hotel Powai. When I heard that the chef Christain Puglisi (half Italian, half Norwegian, raised Danish chef) was Italian and was about to launch a revamped menu I knew this Italian cuisine was going to be extremely authentic!

The event, which began at 7PM sharp and went on till 10.30 had many bloggers attending the event so that they could do what their passion was and that, was blogging! Being a writer my profession and blogger as hobby, I knew I couldn't miss this opportunity! Distance didn't matter to me.

A journey, which lasted for roughly about an hour (train and auto), I reached Renaissance Hotel, Powai and quickly made my way toward FratelliFresh.

Overlooking the beautiful serene Powai Lake, FratelliFresh is quick to catch your attention with its countless number of bottles of Tuscan wine lined on the wall. As soon as you enter the restaurant you are immediately feel that you have stepped into a typical ristorante (generic word for restaurant in Italy). The restaurant, which also has an outdoor balcony and seating arrangement, is a beautiful spot that overlooks the pool. Having an open-air kitchen you can even watch as the chefs prepare food right in front of you!

While there were many appetizers that were being served, my favourite was the ‘Insalata’ salad, also known as Caprese Salad  (simple Italian salad) that was made of fresh sliced mozzarella, tomatoes and green basil; topped with olive oil and salt.

Of course while there were many other appetisers, I went on to my main dish; which of course had to be pasta! The pasta came in two different variants; one was in rich creamy pesto sauce and the other was a tomato based one with zucchini and capsicum pieces in it.  Having a rich, creamy base the pesto pasta was loaded with flavour in each and every bite!   It was definitely my favourite of the evening!

A creamy mushroom risotto was next up in line and was definitely worth the wait! Unlike other risottos I had tried, this one brought out a delicious flavour of mixed herbs and spices along with its creamy, Parmesan flavour.

Pizza, of course had to be there and their thin-based margarita was an absolutely fantastic version! Having thin, crisp crusts the pizza was extremely light was had a very different and unique authenticity to it.

The meal could not end of course without deserts  (also known as dolci in Italian)! While there were many sliced up fruits (strawberries, pitaya, blueberries) and sliced dried fruits (walnuts, cashews) there was also pastries (a lemon flavoured pastry, tiramusu and panna cotta as well. It is of course an absolutely wonderful idea to end your meal with fruits and that is exactly what I did!

Of course, if you want to try some authentic Italian cuisine, FratelliFresh should definitely be on your list!

Karina Pandya in Conversation with Co-Founder of the Banyan, Dr. Vandana Gopikumar

An incident of coming across a homeless and mentally ill woman in distress on the road in front of her college in Chennai paved the route for Vandana Gopikumar to establish one of the leading NGOs in the field of mental health – The Banyan. While she was yet a Master’s student of Social Work, Vandana along with a close friend Vaishnavi Jayakumar encountered several other incidents of not being able to find the right shelter and mental institution for a woman in need of medical and psychiatric attention.     The Banyan, which was established in 1993 has been a one-stop destination to not only rescue, and rehabilitate but also treat mentally ill women from low-income groups. Vandana Gopikumar has pioneered a movement, helping thousands of individuals not only reintegrate into society but also secure long-term medical treatment.    Not only is she the co-founder of the NGO – The Banyan, but is also the co-founder of The Banyan Academy of Leadership (BALM). She is also a member of the advi

NGO Meet Becomes a Fulcrum of Mutual Help

“There is no better way to thank God for your sight than by giving a helping hand to someone in the dark.”  --Helen Keller   There are numerous social causes which would remain otherwise ignored if it were not for the Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) contributing to the cause. January 6th, Saturday saw the coming together of 25-30 NGOs to provide a single platform for mutual help and support. It was organised by the founder trustee of Karmayog – Vinay Somani to discuss strategic planning for social and civic causes.          A Buffet of Purposes: Maybe You're Lost, Maybe You Aren’t. Maybe You’re Meandering with Meaning     Whether it is raising funds, strategy planning, content writing, or volunteering; there are numerous ways by which people can contribute to the welfare of an NGO.    Dr Dhyanraj Patkar, whose Narmada Kidney Foundation works to create awareness about kidney disease said that 6100 people were on the wait list for a kidney transplant in 2023 in Maharashtra bu

A Boutique Passport to New York

New York, the city that NEVER sleeps is one of the most sought-after hotspots for fashionistas across the world.     With astonishingly tall buildings which rise up to a couple of thousand feet in the air, creating a beautiful New York Skyline, New York is home to some of the most popular brands across the world such as Macy’s, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Burberry, Valentino, Kate Spade, Fendi, Coach, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Huckberry, Nordstrom NYC and many others there are plenty of innovative retailers and retail trends to choose from. However, New York has not always been the fashion capital of the world.  Paris, Milan and London have always been known worldwide for the most influential fashion trend. New only emerged as a fashion capital post World War II when New York’s garment district became a vanguard of a different type.      There were designers in New York who challenged the Parisian couture by introducing sportswear into the high fashion world in the 194 0s and 1950s.
