The story took
place in Romania, which is known for having vampiric qualities. There were old,
stoic buildings that were used and a constant gloomy atmosphere in the area. Due to the nature of the film, the crew-members also requested the Eastern Orthodox Priest to bless the set.
Even Dread Central
(Dread Central is an American website founded in 2006 that is
dedicated to horror news, interviews, and reviews.) had asked the cinematographer Maxime
Alexandre whether the production’s location affects how he shoots a film;
to which he responded: “Yes it does... this is a very important point of cinematography,
except if it’s a real creative intention. I feel that it’s wrong to detach the
photography from the rest of the storytelling. A movie is successful when the
audience has been transported into a story. I believe that if an audience
appreciates a single art and not the movie by itself, the effort would be
wasted.”
