Are we Losing a grip over reality in this increasingly artificial world (SELFIE)-WOLD?

How crazy has this world become? "Let me take another selfie"

“They say that the “HOME is where the heart is, but in today’s time, can that really be true?

It’s actually ironic, but it's the phone that’s WHERE the heart is! # Rachitha

Phones are SO “convenient”, that they are SUCH an “INCONVENIENCE”! #Haruki Murakami”.

What are we the best at doing?

Taking Selfies?

I guess so, YES!

Taking pictures of oneself- with others; anywhere, anytime; for some times
taken by a selfie stick (or without one) that are uploaded on social networking services such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, etc.

From a psychological perspective it means that one could take a selfie in a
self-oriented manner that meant that people could create photographs of

themselves with a webcam/ a smartphone –and share that via social media.

Attention is POWER and that's exactly what people WANT; IF you are SOMEONE people are interested in then, the selfie provides something very, very powerful powerful ,

from the MOST PRIVILEGED perspective ever, don't you think?

If you are a celebrity, than nothing is more important than being captured in a selfie!

Its ostensibly an intimate shot of someone whom there is a curiosity the public has about you; there is a great shot that the bloggers and magazine writers want because they will get high readers & of course viewership which means more more PROFITS. Social media has become a great way to look people directly in the eye and say “LOOK AT ME”!

It was in fact, identified as Oxford's Dictionaries word of the Year (2012) ! In fact, in Nov

20, 2012 the first selfie app went live: Shots of Me backed by Justin Bieber which is camera app that app that opens with the lens already facing its user. In fact, these days, the selfie and its main outlet Instagram has come in for much adult loathing.

They are usually uploaded for vanity or flattery sake or even for casual purposes. However, one factor, which remained constant and that is “people lived in this world of illusion where they needed to constantly upload their pictures to feel appreciated, even if it means for themselves.!”

What’s the reason,” for  Selfitis”? (The obsessive compulsion to post Selfies which is a genuine mental disorder, as per psychologists and people to continually post pictures of themselves on social media who may need help, psychologists have warned.)

On March 31, 2014, a story appeared on a website called the Adobo Chronicles that

claimed that the American Psychiatric Association
(APA) had classed “selfitis” as a new mental disorder.

According to the author, the organisation had defined selfitis as “the obsessive compulsive desire to take photos of one’s self and post them on social media as a way to make up for the lack of self-esteem and to fill a gap in intimacy."

The same article also claimed there were three levels of the disorder—borderline (“taking photos of one’s self at least three times a day but not posting them on social media”), acute (“taking photos

of one’s self at least three times a day and posting each of the photos on

social media”), and chronic (“uncontrollable urge to take photos of one’s self

round the clock and posting the photos on social media more than six times a day”).

It was also mood modification (taking selfies to feel better), social competition (taking
selfies to get more ‘likes’ on social media), attention-seeking (taking selfies to gain attention from others), self-confidence (taking selfies to feel more positive about oneself), subjective conformity (taking selfies to fit in with one’s social group and peers).

Is this what our self-esteem confidence has been reduced to -  Gaining respect and recognition through the eyes of other people who may or may not even matter to us?

While looking good in the public eye is important, it is far more important

to have self respect. Not money, not even designation or money. In addition to

your happiness, it's all about self respect. If you cannot respect yourself,

bottom line is that you can't be happy.

People confuse ego with self respect; when they are two completely separate identities. Ego is all about proving how superior you ARE to other people, whether you try to belittle them or try to prove how superior you are or even try to assert your power over them indirectly or directly.

Self respect is different and is just like looking in the mirror, being proud about yourself of who you ARE and NOT letting others treat you like a DOORMAT or that they can TRAMPLE upon you whenever they wish too or want to.

In fact, the whole saying ‘ an apple a day keeps the doctor away’ really needs to be replaced with ‘ a "click a day keeps the blues away and YES literally!" Social Media websites and networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Google +, Pinterest, Tumblr
and Quora."

This year, there have been different social media networks that have helped ecommerce for advertising:  Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, Snapchat and LinkedIn. This not only helps increase and grow your sales but also your fanbase. At the end, all you want is your customer generated content for ads to perform better and to target in a smarter fashion.

Have you ever thought why we NEED a selfie ?

OUR sense of SELF-LOVE is FAR too IMPORTANT!
 I
IT'S JUST for FUN!

WE JUST WANT to show off!

We just want to caption the emotion of the moment and share it!

WE are just bringing people together!

People who take selfies also show behaviour connected to narcissism as they also want to look their best and edit their look and of course the photo. These people think very

highly of themselves, especially how they look. Social Media can be superficial, so it's a good place for people to satisfy their own vanity.

Very few could possibly appreciate this, but it is believed to be the very first selfie ever

taken. Almost 180 years ago by Philadelphia photography enthusiast from named Robert

By sitting perfectly still, for one whole minute before covering his

Of course, there are many, many more selfie picture

Karina Pandya in Conversation with Co-Founder of the Banyan, Dr. Vandana Gopikumar

An incident of coming across a homeless and mentally ill woman in distress on the road in front of her college in Chennai paved the route for Vandana Gopikumar to establish one of the leading NGOs in the field of mental health – The Banyan. While she was yet a Master’s student of Social Work, Vandana along with a close friend Vaishnavi Jayakumar encountered several other incidents of not being able to find the right shelter and mental institution for a woman in need of medical and psychiatric attention.     The Banyan, which was established in 1993 has been a one-stop destination to not only rescue, and rehabilitate but also treat mentally ill women from low-income groups. Vandana Gopikumar has pioneered a movement, helping thousands of individuals not only reintegrate into society but also secure long-term medical treatment.    Not only is she the co-founder of the NGO – The Banyan, but is also the co-founder of The Banyan Academy of Leadership (BALM). She is also a member of the advi

NGO Meet Becomes a Fulcrum of Mutual Help

“There is no better way to thank God for your sight than by giving a helping hand to someone in the dark.”  --Helen Keller   There are numerous social causes which would remain otherwise ignored if it were not for the Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) contributing to the cause. January 6th, Saturday saw the coming together of 25-30 NGOs to provide a single platform for mutual help and support. It was organised by the founder trustee of Karmayog – Vinay Somani to discuss strategic planning for social and civic causes.          A Buffet of Purposes: Maybe You're Lost, Maybe You Aren’t. Maybe You’re Meandering with Meaning     Whether it is raising funds, strategy planning, content writing, or volunteering; there are numerous ways by which people can contribute to the welfare of an NGO.    Dr Dhyanraj Patkar, whose Narmada Kidney Foundation works to create awareness about kidney disease said that 6100 people were on the wait list for a kidney transplant in 2023 in Maharashtra bu

A Boutique Passport to New York

New York, the city that NEVER sleeps is one of the most sought-after hotspots for fashionistas across the world.     With astonishingly tall buildings which rise up to a couple of thousand feet in the air, creating a beautiful New York Skyline, New York is home to some of the most popular brands across the world such as Macy’s, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Burberry, Valentino, Kate Spade, Fendi, Coach, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Huckberry, Nordstrom NYC and many others there are plenty of innovative retailers and retail trends to choose from. However, New York has not always been the fashion capital of the world.  Paris, Milan and London have always been known worldwide for the most influential fashion trend. New only emerged as a fashion capital post World War II when New York’s garment district became a vanguard of a different type.      There were designers in New York who challenged the Parisian couture by introducing sportswear into the high fashion world in the 194 0s and 1950s.
