UNKNOWN FACTS OF AVIATION

-->

There may be many reasons to not like travelling by air but that is not what I want to highlight, but did you know that that approximately 7,000 airplanes (according to TripSavvy) are in the air at any given moment of the day.

However, as the world has turned into a global village international flights have become quite common and several overseas airliners such as Emirates, Qantas, British Airways, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Air France also operate in India. This is in addition to the offers and benefits. The Indian market too is catching up with its domestic airlines: Jet Airways, Spice jet, Indigo and Air India.

Pilots go through a lot of fallen sleep, hopping, stress; awkward and long hours making it difficult for them fall asleep at work or not pay attention to the huge amounts of buttons and levers in front of them.

It's the number of plane crashes that do occur and the recent one that did occur on a massive scale was the Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 Max Crash six minutes after take off from Addis Ababa. All 157 passengers and crew on board died.  It was an international crash-affecting victim’s from over 35 different countries and it continues to have a seismic affect.

How many other crashes have there been before this that have left families torn apart and damaged the environment and local neighborhood. Yet, our lives go on, as if nothing has happen (as we cant do anything- which is true) but is heartbreaking.

What can you say to a family member who sees just the photograph over their one but cannot see the body as it’s amongst the crash site? Hold a picture, not see a body and just accept the truth?

However, besides all the wonderful reasons of flying, people don't really pay heed to the insider facts, which of course do exist, no matter how pessimistic and cynical they may sound.

The plane, which recently came down on March 10th 2019 was such a catastrophic site, it has shaken up everyone, but what can be done and what be undone? So many plane crashes yet remain a mystery: the Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 – A Boeing 777 which disappeared after taking off soon from Kuala Lumpur, Air India Flight 182 (1985).

Similarly, on a yearly basis how many such accidents can we turn a deaf ear on?
In the past, some were the 1996 Air Africa Crash was one of the deadliest plane crashes, the Korean Air Flight 801 on August 6th 1997 left a horrific aftermath.

Yet, certain airlines have been the safest and they include British Airways (only one mid-air collision, Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways.

Boeing, which is short to medium narrow body airliner developed by and manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes has always been a strong partner of India’s aerospace sector for over 75 years.
Boeing is committed to provide the most efficient and world-class services airlines in India.

This includes Jet Airways (a Boeing customer since the 1990s), SpiceJet, India’s cargo operators: Bluedart  India’s largest express cargo operator, uses the 757 Freighter, and QuikJet Cargo Airlines operates a 737-400 Freighter. The Indian Ministry of Defence operates four 737-200s and three 737 Boeing Business Jets, two new Air India 777-300ER aircrafts are scheduled for modification for Head of State configuration. In addition many other suppliers.

Similarly, there are also other body airliners such as Airbus , McDonnell Douglas, Lockheed Martin and Convair in the United States, British Aerospace (now BAE Systems) and Fokker in Europe which also operate across the world.

This is JUST NOT ALL there is to NOT KNOW about the AVIATION industry. Its casual to just get on a flight for business/work purposes, to discover new cultures, to find themselves, travelling or to meet your family or loved ones but there are also many other things that need to be KNOWN!

Karina Pandya in Conversation with Co-Founder of the Banyan, Dr. Vandana Gopikumar

An incident of coming across a homeless and mentally ill woman in distress on the road in front of her college in Chennai paved the route for Vandana Gopikumar to establish one of the leading NGOs in the field of mental health – The Banyan. While she was yet a Master’s student of Social Work, Vandana along with a close friend Vaishnavi Jayakumar encountered several other incidents of not being able to find the right shelter and mental institution for a woman in need of medical and psychiatric attention.     The Banyan, which was established in 1993 has been a one-stop destination to not only rescue, and rehabilitate but also treat mentally ill women from low-income groups. Vandana Gopikumar has pioneered a movement, helping thousands of individuals not only reintegrate into society but also secure long-term medical treatment.    Not only is she the co-founder of the NGO – The Banyan, but is also the co-founder of The Banyan Academy of Leadership (BALM). She is also a member of the advi

NGO Meet Becomes a Fulcrum of Mutual Help

“There is no better way to thank God for your sight than by giving a helping hand to someone in the dark.”  --Helen Keller   There are numerous social causes which would remain otherwise ignored if it were not for the Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) contributing to the cause. January 6th, Saturday saw the coming together of 25-30 NGOs to provide a single platform for mutual help and support. It was organised by the founder trustee of Karmayog – Vinay Somani to discuss strategic planning for social and civic causes.          A Buffet of Purposes: Maybe You're Lost, Maybe You Aren’t. Maybe You’re Meandering with Meaning     Whether it is raising funds, strategy planning, content writing, or volunteering; there are numerous ways by which people can contribute to the welfare of an NGO.    Dr Dhyanraj Patkar, whose Narmada Kidney Foundation works to create awareness about kidney disease said that 6100 people were on the wait list for a kidney transplant in 2023 in Maharashtra bu

A Boutique Passport to New York

New York, the city that NEVER sleeps is one of the most sought-after hotspots for fashionistas across the world.     With astonishingly tall buildings which rise up to a couple of thousand feet in the air, creating a beautiful New York Skyline, New York is home to some of the most popular brands across the world such as Macy’s, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Burberry, Valentino, Kate Spade, Fendi, Coach, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Huckberry, Nordstrom NYC and many others there are plenty of innovative retailers and retail trends to choose from. However, New York has not always been the fashion capital of the world.  Paris, Milan and London have always been known worldwide for the most influential fashion trend. New only emerged as a fashion capital post World War II when New York’s garment district became a vanguard of a different type.      There were designers in New York who challenged the Parisian couture by introducing sportswear into the high fashion world in the 194 0s and 1950s.
