Indian Startups Paving their Way During Pandemic

Some of the Indian Startups Paving their Way During Pandemic…

This has led to a tidal wave of entrepreneurial activity with many start-ups becoming a source of job growth, innovation and economic resiliency.

1) ChefJunction– This is a website that enables users to order home-cooked food from their own home. The main target audience has been students who are away from their homes and miss home cooked meals.  It was founded in August 2020 by college mates Suryanshu Panda and Epari Pritam in Bhubaneswar.  This startup not only helps a person to order homemade meals but also provides a platform for home chefs to make a living.

2)Greenhive Essentials– This is a portal that sells eco-friendly, plastic-free alternatives for commonly used items. Some of these sustainable items include steel straws, bamboo toothbrushes, eco-friendly shopping bags and pure copper tongue cleaners.

3)Felocity  - This is an entrepreneurial journey launched by Pratika Khandelwal and her brother Vaibhav Khandelwal. They started Felicity when they felt the need for people, to get easy access to mental health therapy online through online video counselling at affordable rates. Breaking geographical barriers between people, those people in need can consult therapists from all across India.

"Establishing Felicity has been an eye-opener for us. While we expected a huge crowd to come from metro cities and urban areas, Felicity currently gets 50 per cent of its users from semi-urban cities," says Pratika, Co-founder and CEO.

4)Gradeazy: Dishant Gandhi and Alok Kumar in Surat recognised that all people could not access educational institutions to conduct online examinations. They launched Gradeazy, a portal that would enable everyone an ability to conduct their exams for just INR 1 per exam.

5)Pooja Sansar: Conducting important poojas and rituals are critical aspects of an Indian household. A brother-sister (Sanchie Shroff and Aaditya Anand) duo along with their father (Anand Prakash) launched Pooja Sansar to meet the need of delivering ritual kits to a person's home so that they can get these items even during the lockdown. The Patna-based e-commerce portal delivers pooja items for festivities such as Navratri, Diwali, Bhai Dhooj, Karva Chauth and other Hindu festivals.

6)Deeps Shop: While artisans and craftsmen struggle with less work and income, Deepak Jha launched Deeps Shop – an e-commerce platform to support artisan working. Some of the products sold include home décor, vintage items, home furnishing and gifts.

Karina Pandya in Conversation with Co-Founder of the Banyan, Dr. Vandana Gopikumar

An incident of coming across a homeless and mentally ill woman in distress on the road in front of her college in Chennai paved the route for Vandana Gopikumar to establish one of the leading NGOs in the field of mental health – The Banyan. While she was yet a Master’s student of Social Work, Vandana along with a close friend Vaishnavi Jayakumar encountered several other incidents of not being able to find the right shelter and mental institution for a woman in need of medical and psychiatric attention.     The Banyan, which was established in 1993 has been a one-stop destination to not only rescue, and rehabilitate but also treat mentally ill women from low-income groups. Vandana Gopikumar has pioneered a movement, helping thousands of individuals not only reintegrate into society but also secure long-term medical treatment.    Not only is she the co-founder of the NGO – The Banyan, but is also the co-founder of The Banyan Academy of Leadership (BALM). She is also a...

4 Mindfully Spent Days At Woods At Sasan for a Writing Retreat with Bhavna Kher

Writing has been my passion for over 18 years so when I heard about the Writing Retreat that screenwriter, brand consultant and former creative director of Ogilvy - Bhavna Kher was going to conduct I was immediately interested in attending the same.     Not only this but I also wanted to connect with other writers and also sharpen my writing skills as well. It was a perfect opportunity to find inspiration within a focused environment.  Moreover, the 4-day writing retreat, (September 14- September 18th) which was conducted at a luxury boutique resort provided the perfect break from city life, and mindfully focused on sharpening one’s writing skills.  Having our independent quarters, we were surrounded by thickets of trees, within a lush mango orchard on the fringes of the Sasan Gir forest. It was the perfect place to calmly create a story without any disturbances. Moreover, in between the writing exercises, we went for a safari, and eco-trail, and were given besp...
