The 'Incredible Jessica James' - A Must Watch!

Although this film was released ON Netflix in 2017, I just got a chance to stumble across this witty yet charming coming-of-age drama, The Incredible Jessica James. Directed by American screenwriter and film director – James Strouse who is well known for his films such as Love Again, Lonesome Jim and Grace is Gone, Strouse has also written this film as well.

Starring Jessica Williams in the lead as Jessica James who is well known for her roles in Crying in Public, Delivery Man and People Places and Things, Jessica has surely outdone herself in her highly charismatic and daunting role as she not only balances a breakup but also navigates her way through her grief by developing a romantic relationship simultaneously.

Known to be a fiercely independent woman, Jessica is also a teacher at a children’s theatre workshop in Hell’s Kitchen. With LaKeith Stanfeild playing the role of her ex-boyfriend Damon, LaKeith is seen as a heartbroken man who hasn’t been able to fathom the depths of the breakup. Doubting her career as a playwright and lashing out at work, Jessica has been reduced to an Instagram mess, stalking her ex. She rebounds in a relationship with an emotionally wrecked divorcee – Boone (an Irish actor and comedian Christopher O'Dowdwho is somehow also trying to seek closure from his ex.

One common theme between all of these actors is the thread of being in a broken relationship, whether it is the divorcee- Boone, the protagonist Jessica or the heartbroken ex-boyfriend – Damon.

Simultaneously, Jessica’s submissions are repeatedly rejected, adding some more despair to the film. However, Jessica’s special interest in a student – Shandra (played as Taliyah Whitaker) where she even urges her to participate in a weekend writer’s workshop (which she ultimately did not go for) shows her passion as a woman. While many moments are easy to laugh at, there are also extremely awkward moments which bring in a lot of humour.

Watching The Incredible Jessica James was extremely cathartic and also very encouraging! I would highly recommend this film to anyone.

South Mumbai Residents Threaten Legal Action Over Proposed VVIP Jetty Near Gateway of India

Time is running out. At least, this is what the protestors who gathered at a public meeting at Real Party Hall at Colaba Arthur Bunder Road at 4 PM on Saturday, April 5 th , 2025, believe. The skyline of Colaba was built over time – stone by stone and voice by voice.   It is this very same skyline which is at threat owing to the danger of the construction of the newly proposed passenger jetty being constructed near Radio Club which will affect the flow of traffic, especially near the Radio Club stretch and the iconic view of the Gateway of India.   To voice their opposition, residents have launched an online petition against the project garnering over 3,000 signatures. A special WhatsApp group has also been formed to organise peaceful protests, which has already been joined by over 2,000 members.   The petition, known as ‘Save Colaba: Stop the Jetty Project’ proposes that the jetty project is a mammoth 2-acre structure that will be constructed in a space that has no room ...

4 Mindfully Spent Days At Woods At Sasan for a Writing Retreat with Bhavna Kher

Writing has been my passion for over 18 years so when I heard about the Writing Retreat that screenwriter, brand consultant and former creative director of Ogilvy - Bhavna Kher was going to conduct I was immediately interested in attending the same.     Not only this but I also wanted to connect with other writers and also sharpen my writing skills as well. It was a perfect opportunity to find inspiration within a focused environment.  Moreover, the 4-day writing retreat, (September 14- September 18th) which was conducted at a luxury boutique resort provided the perfect break from city life, and mindfully focused on sharpening one’s writing skills.  Having our independent quarters, we were surrounded by thickets of trees, within a lush mango orchard on the fringes of the Sasan Gir forest. It was the perfect place to calmly create a story without any disturbances. Moreover, in between the writing exercises, we went for a safari, and eco-trail, and were given besp...
