Starring Bérénice Bejo (French-Argentine actress) as a marine biologist – Sophia Assalas does a brilliant job at her role as she is not only seen as a sincere biologist but her acting skills are very plausible. The film opens up with Sophia and her team (including her husband Chris) searching for Lilith – a tagged shortfin mako shark near the Great Pacific Garbage patch, ultimately leading to the death of Chris and the other team members - Sam, Juan and Tom.
Three years later, Sophia is working at an aquarium in Paris and is informed by an environmentalist – Mika that Lilith’s tracking beacon is still active and has travelled from the Pacific Ocean to the River Seine. Teaming up with police diver Adil and his team team Caro, Adama, Angèle and Markus, she tries to find and kill the shark, only to realise that the sharks are mutating at an alarming rate!
Besides this, the Mayor of Paris ((Anne Marivin) is too arrogant to call off the Seine triathlon as it focuses global attention on Paris during the Olympic Games which billions of euros have already been spent on. As the highly public event takes off and the swimmers dive in for their swim, the ravenous sharks create a bloodbath, creating a lot of panic and terror among the crowd.
In an attempt to kill Lilith, gunfires and explosions at the bottom of the river create shifts destroying several bridges and flooding the centre of Paris, throwing in not only the Mayor but many spectators.
If you are a fan of shark movies this movie should be on your list!
