Celebrating Dedication and Leadership: Jai Hind College Event & Dinner with Dr. Ruma Devi and Esteemed Guests

I, Karina Pandya, joined the inspiring gathering at Jai Hind College on 29th June to witness and celebrate impactful leadership and community service.

It was on this evening that Jai Hind College played host to an inspiring event led by the esteemed Smt Dr. Ruma Devi and her dedicated team from the Ruma Devi Foundation. Ruma Devi has empowered women with her skilled hands and earned global fame for her skill at village crafts. She has woven a legacy in her humble name and is recognised even at Harvard University for her work in empowering rural women through traditional handicrafts, and also across India.

The gathering was a remarkable celebration of leadership, philanthropy, and community spirit, graced by an illustrious line-up of guests who made the occasion truly memorable.

The Event at Jai Hind College

The event commenced at the college premises with an air of warmth and enthusiasm. The Chief Guest, Shriman Babulaji Mishrimalji Bhansali, Managing Director of Bhansali Engineering Polymers Ltd., brought his visionary insights to the gathering, emphasising the role of corporate leadership in social development.

Adding to the prestige of the occasion were the Guests of Honour, Smt Dr. Manju Lodha and Smt Simran Ahuja, who shared their valuable perspectives on education, empowerment, and the importance of nurturing young talent.

The program was presided over by two highly respected figures, Shri Avinash Dharmadhirakari and Shri Prakash C Kanugo, who guided the proceedings with grace and a deep understanding of the social causes championed by Dr. Ruma Devi.

Among the distinguished invitees present were:

• Smt. Sangeeta M Sanghvi, President
• Smt. Latika M Dagilia, Secretary
• Smt. Ekta H Lanugo, Treasurer
• Shri Rajesh P. Gadia, Sanskar Sanyojak

Their participation reflected the strong organisational backbone supporting the foundation’s mission.

The event was not only a platform to highlight the remarkable work being done by the Ruma Devi Foundation but also served as a catalyst to foster meaningful connections between social leaders, educators, and industry stalwarts.

An Elegant Evening at Garware Club

Following the successful event at Jai Hind College, the guests and organisers gathered for a dinner at the elegant Garware Club, known for its exquisite ambience and hospitality. The dinner provided a relaxed setting for networking, reflection, and celebration of the day’s inspiring conversations. Shri Prakash C Kanugo hosted an interesting question-and-answer session with Smt Dr. Ruma Devi.

Conversations flowed over sumptuous cuisine, with the attendees sharing their thoughts on the future of social initiatives, education, and community engagement. The informal interactions strengthened bonds and opened doors for future collaborations.

I had the opportunity to present a copy of my recently published fiction book to Ruma Devi – Inside Mumbai: Stories from the Heart of a Vibrant Culture.

The event and dinner on 29th June will be remembered as a day of inspiration, leadership, and commitment to social change, beautifully anchored by the presence of Smt Dr. Ruma Devi and her esteemed guests.
