What my cats taught me about life – lessons from Bunty, Babli, Mini and Prince Goldie
Sometimes the most profound life lessons don’t come from books, lectures or even long conversations. Sometimes they come from four quiet, whiskered companions who wander with you around the house with soft paws and curious eyes.
When I first started writing what eventually became Purrfectly Ridiculous Tales, I thought I was writing about life. I didn’t plan to write about cats at all or mix them with fiction. However, the daily amusements that I had with these four bundles of joy soon seeped in.
Cats may not speak our language, but they have a remarkable way of teaching us how to live.
Mini: The Lesson of Grace and Boundaries
Mini carries herself like feline royalty. Every movement is deliberate, well thought out, and every glance is thoughtful. She reminds us that dignity is not about pride but is about knowing your worth, and she surely knew her worth!
She taught me that it is perfectly normal to set boundaries. She accepts affection only when she wants to and chooses to. She even walks away when she needs her space. Watching her unfold throughout these stories reminds me that respecting our own limits is not selfish but is necessary – it’s very necessary to respect our own limits for balance and power.
Prince Goldie – the Art of Charm and Confidence
Living at his own pace, that is unhurried and calm, Prince Goldie doesn’t have to compete with anyone. He simply existed with quiet confidence. In a world that constantly pushes us to move forward quickly, Goldie reminds us that calmness is actually a strength. It's very important to slow down, breathe and enjoy the moment that we live in.
Babli: Embracing Boldness and Personality
Babli, who is the drama queen, is sassy with a cherry on top. She enters every room as though she owns it and reminds us of the quintessential humour of Charlie Chaplin. She isn’t shy about expressing what she wants.
For her, it is important to embrace our individuality and life becomes more joyful when we allow ourselves to be fully who we are – quirks and all.
With her playful confidence, she reminds us that authenticity is more important than perfection.
Bunty – The Beauty of Quiet Observation
Bunty is the silent observer of the group, with a very loud mouth. While all the others were busy chasing adventures, Bunty sat quietly watching the world from her favourite perch.
She has a calm presence that reminds us of the value of simply observing the world around us.
Not every moment needs to be filled with action, and sometimes the most meaningful experiences happen when we pause, reflect, and even notice the small details around us.
The Magic of Everyday Moments
What began as simple observations about my cats turned into fun stories and transitions into stories- the story of mini singing beneath the moonlight, the pudding heist, mysterious bells, etc.
While a lot of the book was inspired by personal events in my life – like the book launch, the yoga retreat, etc., others were shaped by imagination, where cats were brought to life and spoke, sand and solved mysteries.
Every story shared a common truth: life’s magic often hides in ordinary moments, and that’s what makes life so special!
Whether it is a quiet afternoon, a playful chase across the living room or a soft purr of a cat, it can turn even the most ordinary story into an extraordinary one.
A Gentle Reminder from Four Cats
If Bunty, Babli, Mini and Prince Goldie have taught me anything, or just simply writing this book, it is this: happiness doesn’t have to be complicated!
It can be found in small rituals, warm companionship and the comfort of a quiet home filled with love.
Cats just have a wonderful way of reminding us that we should pause, stretch in the sunshine perhaps and chase the occasional dream. Its important to appreciate the simple beauty of the present moment because that’s where life is at!
Perhaps, the wisest teacher walks on all four paws!
Wonderful. ✨
