‘Love Again’ movie review: This Priyanka Chopra-Sam Heughan syrupy romance works in parts!

Falling in love is the most magical feeling in the world and is the most euphoric feeling that you can possibly feel. Exhilaration, euphoria, sleeplessness, a racing heartbeat and feelings of despair are some of the main feelings that are experienced. Breakups are definitely hard to cope with but the mortal death of your loved one can be extremely devastating. This is when the idea of ‘falling in love again’ can be absolutely unimaginable!

In Celion Dion’s first film of all time, Priyanka Chopra and Sam Heughan pair together in the most charming romantic -comedy – ‘Love Again’ directed by James C. Strouse. Known for his films such as Grace is Gone, Lonesome Jim, The Incredible Jessica James, The Winning Season and others James C. Strouse is a popular screenwriter and director.

Yet grieving over her fiancé’s death- two years post his death, Mira Ray – an Indian American illustrator and well-known children's book writer (especially of Caterpillar books) converses with her dead boyfriend via texts. However, the receiver of these romantic messages reaches a music critic – Rob Burns who is working on a Celion Dion profile and is also the person to whom Miras’s ex-boyfriend's number has been reassigned. Rob, also had a recent break up with his fiancé when his fiancé decided to not marry him on their wedding day.

As Mira continues to exchange her heartfelt emotions with her ex-boyfriend, little does she know who is at the receiving end. Rob is so captivated by Mira’s honesty in the messages that he even asks Celion Dion’s expert advice on how to meet Mira in person and win her heart. He refuses to confront her about these texts and gets captivated by his emotions.

After their first date, he immediately googles her name and finds out about her work. He then realises that she has been texting her dead fiancé all this while.

A series of events take place between Mira and Rob which ultimately lead to them falling in love. A fresh take on romantic comedies, this film carries a lot of optimism about people who are struggling to fall in love again. With very relatable situations, the movie is well appreciated.

In addition to this, Celion Dion’s brilliant performance and 11 outstanding songs are woven beautifully into the narrative of the film. With 5 new tracks of Celion Dion’s, the movie can also be described as a moving ballad.

An English translation of the 2016 German film SMS fur Dich this film is also a remake of the novel by Sofie Cramer – Text For You.   Jim Strouse not only wrote the script for this movie but also directed it. The movie which was filmed in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic placed a huge challenge on all the actors to portray their roles as it was a very scary, daunting atmosphere to shoot the film during.

The movie which was released on May 5th, 2023 and September 2nd on Netflix. There are many other notable actors such as Arinze Kene as John, Sofia Barclay as Suzy Ray, Lydia West, Celia Imrie, Omid Djalia, Steve Oram, and Russell Tovey. Released under Sony Pictures Releasing, the film has already grossed $6.2 million in the United States and Canada, and $6.5 million in other territories – for a worldwide total of $12.7 million.

To make things a bit more interesting, Priyanka Chopra’s husband – Nick Jonas plays a cameo in the film. In an attempt to help her move on, Mira’s sister Suzy signs Mira on a dating app – Bumble. Her date happens to be a gym bro – Joel who is played by Nick Jonas. In the movie, she struggles to find a connection with him.

With most of the movie being filmed in London – primarily Hackney; the rest is shot all across New York. The film on the whole is a light and heart-warming watch if too much attention is not paid to critiquing the storyline or acting. Having a terrific cast, this film can definitely be watched over and over again!

An incident of coming across a homeless and mentally ill woman in distress on the road in front of her college in Chennai paved the route for Vandana Gopikumar to establish one of the leading NGOs in the field of mental health – The Banyan. While she was yet a Master’s student of Social Work, Vandana along with a close friend Vaishnavi Jayakumar encountered several other incidents of not being able to find the right shelter and mental institution for a woman in need of medical and psychiatric attention.     The Banyan, which was established in 1993 has been a one-stop destination to not only rescue, and rehabilitate but also treat mentally ill women from low-income groups. Vandana Gopikumar has pioneered a movement, helping thousands of individuals not only reintegrate into society but also secure long-term medical treatment.    Not only is she the co-founder of the NGO – The Banyan, but is also the co-founder of The Banyan Academy of Leadership (BALM). NGO Meet Becomes a Fulcrum of Mutual Help

“There is no better way to thank God for your sight than by giving a helping hand to someone in the dark.”  --Helen Keller   There are numerous social causes which would remain otherwise ignored if it were not for the Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) contributing to the cause. A Boutique Passport to New York

New York, the city that NEVER sleeps is one of the most sought-after hotspots for fashionistas across the world.     With astonishingly tall buildings which rise up to a couple of thousand feet in the air, creating a beautiful New York Skyline, New York is home to some of the most popular brands across the world such as Macy’s, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Burberry, Valentino, Kate Spade, Fendi, Coach, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Huckberry, Nordstrom NYC and many others there are plenty of innovative retailers and retail trends to choose from.
