Jio Samman Se – Living with Dignity
Living with dignity means being valued, respected, and accepted for who you are—not defined or limited by a medical condition. For people living with epilepsy, dignity often becomes something they must actively fight for. Epilepsy is not just a medical challenge; it is frequently accompanied by social misunderstanding, fear, and stigma. These societal barriers can deeply affect a person’s confidence, opportunities, and sense of self-worth. This is where the slogan “Jio Samman Se” – Live with Dignity becomes profoundly meaningful and necessary.
For many individuals with epilepsy, the idea of dignity is challenged every day—at school, in the workplace, within communities, and sometimes even within their own families. Myths and misconceptions surrounding epilepsy often give rise to fear, discrimination, and social exclusion. A lack of awareness can lead people to judge or underestimate those living with the condition, rather than understand and support them. Jio Samman Se stands as a powerful reminder that every individual deserves respect, empathy, and equal opportunities, regardless of their medical condition.
Epilepsy does not define a person’s intelligence, capability, creativity, or potential. It is a neurological condition characterised by recurrent seizures caused by abnormal electrical activity in the brain. With proper diagnosis, treatment, and support, epilepsy can often be effectively managed. However, despite medical advancements, the condition continues to be widely misunderstood. Many people incorrectly assume that individuals with epilepsy are incapable of living independent lives or contributing meaningfully to society. In reality, most people with epilepsy lead productive, successful, and fulfilling lives—as professionals, artists, athletes, entrepreneurs, and community leaders.
Unfortunately, persistent myths—such as epilepsy being contagious, linked to mental illness, or a sign of weakness—continue to exist. These misconceptions not only isolate those affected but also strip them of their dignity and self-confidence. Jio Samman Se actively challenges these false beliefs and calls for a more informed, compassionate, and inclusive society—one that recognises ability rather than focusing on limitation.
To take this message beyond words and into the public space, the Samman Association – Mumbai Epilepsy Chapterorganised its inaugural Jio Samman Se awareness run on 23rd March 2025 in Malad, Mumbai. The event aimed to raise awareness about epilepsy, encourage open dialogue, and fight the stigma associated with the condition. The marathon featured multiple run categories—3 km, 5 km, and 10 km—making it accessible to people of all ages and fitness levels. Importantly, the run was open not only to individuals living with epilepsy but also to supporters, caregivers, families, and the wider community, reinforcing the idea that awareness and inclusion are collective responsibilities.
Building on the success and impact of the inaugural event, the Jio Samman Se Run 2026 was held on 1st February 2026 at Bandra Fort, Mumbai. The scenic and symbolic location further amplified the message of resilience, strength, and unity. The event was graced by Robin Behl, the fastest Indian to complete the Antarctic Ice Marathon and founder of Tribe India, as the chief guest. His journey and achievements underscored the themes of endurance, determination, and breaking perceived limits—values that strongly resonate with the epilepsy community.
.Together, these initiatives embody the true spirit of Jio Samman Se—a movement that goes beyond awareness to actively advocate for respect, dignity, and equal treatment. By promoting education, empathy, and participation, Jio Samman Seseeks to create a society where people living with epilepsy are not judged by their condition but recognised for their strength, individuality, and limitless potential.
