Image
Atomic Habits is a book in which international author and speaker at major companies and events, James Clear had spent 6 years researching, thinking and writing about habits. This culmination resulted in the book which was released in the year 2018 and has over 7 million copies sold worldwide, has been on the New York Times bestseller list for over 1 year and has been translated into over 50 languages.   The book which is a self-improvement book illustrates that if we improve our daily habits continuously, we will surmount reaching the intended goal result we desired. This, James defines is a result of working on our habits daily. These habits are a compound interest of self-interest, and on a microscopic magnification amount to nothing, but a compound interest over the months and years their effects can accumulate to an enormous degree.   The simple foundation of this book, Clear tries to illustrate through detailed examples from real life is that good habits are the f...

What is a sound investment during the Coronavirus period and how should investors go about it?

Image
It was in 2019 that the world economy began to face a complete synchronised slowdown (since the Great Recession). This was because global markets began to suffer a sharp deterioration of manufacturing activity. Although the IMF (International Monetary Fund) has blamed heightened trade and geopolitical tensions citing Brexit and the China-United States trade war as reasons for the slowdown in 2019, many economists blame liquidity issues.    This recession, which began in most countries in February 2020, is also known as the shortest global recession on record. Major indices dropped 20 to 30% in late February and March, while recovery began in April 2020. There were unusually high and rapid increases in unemployment in many countries. Moreover, global events such as the 2020 Russia-Saudi Arabia oil price war impacted the global stock-market crash.      With the 2020 stock market crash the world began to grapple with rapid and unanticipated sharp drops in stoc...

Panchakarma: An Ayurvedic Method of Detoxification and Rejuvenation

Image
Panchakarma: The Ayurvedic Science of Detoxification and Rejuvenation   We all live very busy lives; running from pillar to post that sometimes we often tend to overlook on our inner wellbeing. According to Ayurvedic methods, every single disease begins in the mind and from there it goes to the digestive tract. In order to be healthy, (according to Ayurveda) the body has to be clear of toxins and the organs should be functioning in an optimal condition. Moreover the mind should be at peace and emotions calm and happy.  However, this is all true in an idealistic environment, but we are constantly surrounded by stressful situations. In a stressful and toxic environment, both our physical and mental health conditions accumulate toxins, which cause a breakdown of the functioning of our body and mind; opening the door to chronic, degenerative and non-specific diseases to develop. No matter how much we may try to prevent them from occurring, it is not possible to live according to t...

Emotional Rigidity Vs. Emotional Agility

Image
Psychology has always fascinated me for the sheer sense of how it explores the topic of individualism and collectivism and how we interact with one another in society. However, what is important to remember is how we drive our inner world is so very important when we deal with the outer world and in dealing with our emotional interaction with other people, i.e. how emotionally agile should we be vs. how emotional rigid.   However, when we think of our behaviour; we think of our brain – its structure or we think about our emotions. However. There is far more beyond this, which has to be included which begins with our mindsets – our mentality which refers to the manner in which we behave/believe in a certain way prior to an experience.  Having said that, it was  English economist John Maynard Keynes who compiled this famous quote,"The difficulty lies, not in the new ideas, but in escaping from the old ones?”   At a time of greater comple...

Why we can’t stop looking at pictures of empty cities –COVID-19?

Image
Psychology has a very funny way that it plays on the human mind and that is how it interacts with human emotions. Although we are hard wired for human interaction, it is those images of emptiness that appeal and satiate the human eye the most.  Have you ever imagined or thought of the possibility of a human apocalypse or extinction? Its hard to imagine and we cant help but imagining what would this world be like without us? There would be unfamiliar and unworldly scenes that would make us stop, look and linger – as if we are the alien peeping into this world from the outside.     Perhaps, this is one of the main reasons why photographers across the world have been able to capture a dystopian glimpse of a world without people as people remain indoors and avoid all public places because of the Covid-19 pandemic.     When there is a crisis we usually think of images such as fires, floods, bombs, warfare, etc. but we never eve...
